The Canadian Model Forest Network (CMFN) is a network of 14 model forest sites across Canada. Each local site involves numerous partners who all work towards sustainable landscape management. Partners include, forest companies, Aboriginal communities, private citizens, parks, environmental groups, governments and universities. As a network the CMFN collectively works to raise the profile of model forests in Canada and around the world and coordinates relevant national initiatives.
June 5, 2008 - J. Michael Waldram Memorial Model Forest Fellowship The Canadian Model Forest Network is pleased to announce the establishment of the J. Michael Waldram Memorial Model Forest Fellowship. The Fellowship, valued at up to $1,000, will be open to Canadian Aboriginal youth enrolled in either a degree or diploma program in natural resource management at an accredited Canadian university or college.... January 8, 2008 - Canadian Model Forests Contribute to Envirothon Envirothon are Olympic style competitions designed for high school students to educate them about the natural environment. Through this program, students evolve from simple environmental awareness to active stewardship. Intended to encourage high school students to become interested in environmental issues, the concept quickly grew in popularity and by 1988 the first official competition was held. Since its creation, the concept hasn’t changed drastically; it is still a hands-on outdoor competition designed to challenge and test each student’s knowledge of soils, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife, and current environmental issues.... November 18, 2007 - The Atlantic Teachers’ Tour From August 13-16, 2007, teachers from the four Atlantic Provinces participated in a four day journey to learn about forestry and the forest industry. The Atlantic Teachers’ Tours bring teachers from Atlantic Canada to managed woodlands, forestry operations and mills in order to provide current information about the forest industry. Executive Director of the Canadian Woodlands Forum (CWF), Peter Robichaud, stated that the tour continues to bring positive feedback from the participating teachers. “This year’s teachers were blown away by the depth of the forest industry and its multi-disciplinary characteristics,” he said.... |
